The oldest of the three, St. Peter's, began in 1870 with the formation of a congregation of twenty-seven families. The first church was built in 1873, but was destroyed in a great gale shortly afterwards. The present building was erected in 1888, and stands on a high point in the village overlooking the bay. Loch Lomond congregation was formed by fourteen families in 1926. The church building, located near beautiful Loch Lomond and constructed largely by the men of the congregation, was opened in 1930. Today, because of the decline in the population of the area, services are held only from May to October.Grand River United Church situated close to the river, was opened in 1929. Again, because of the small population of the community, services are held only during the months of May to December. Although the membership is small, the Pastoral Charge is working hard to maintain its self-supporting status. In 1996 a fine new four-bedroom manse was opened. Located in St. Peter's on the south side of Highway # 4, it has a commanding view of the bay.
